REGION 10 SENIOR PAIRS CHAMPIONS 

Firstly, a massive congratulations to Roger Newman and Gerard Harkins for winning the Regional Senior Pairs. The guys certainly didn’t have it all their own way throughout the match, with the Hills pair of Ross Moore and Ian Jones taking a commanding 9-3 lead after just 5 ends. Roger and Gerard kept fighting, but luck wasn’t on their side in the first half of the game, combined with some truly exceptional bowls from Ross and Ian that kept the Castle Hill pair at bay.

Despite the early setback, Roger and Gerard displayed remarkable resilience and composure, gradually finding their rhythm. However, the match appeared to be slipping out of reach just over the halfway point, with the Hills pair holding a solid two shots and Gerard down to his last bowl. In a moment that would later prove pivotal, Gerard managed to save the end by drawing the shot, kickstarting a remarkable comeback that reignited their hopes.

Over the next few ends, Roger and Gerard turned up the heat, closing the gap end by end, until they were only trailing 16-14 after the 18th end. By now, the tension was palpable, and the strong support from the Castle Hill fan base seemed to spur the guys on. With every bowl, the crowd grew more vocal, cheering as the pair executed precise shots under pressure.

In the final ends, the momentum had fully swung in their favour. With nerves of steel and unwavering determination, Roger and Gerard pulled off a series of impressive shots to clinch a 19-17 victory.
